Community Guidelines

Bring your personality, your opinions and your curiosity. Leave room for other people to do the same.

Version 1.0 · Effective October 26, 2026

These rules apply across Chapters, clubs, the Community Table, Moments, Notes, profiles and uploaded designs. They apply to members, hosts, moderators and the site owner alike. Private spaces still have rules.

Disagree without making it personal

Criticize a book, film, idea or site decision without attacking the person. Different tastes, blunt wording, ordinary disagreements and good-faith mistakes are not automatically harassment.

Do not threaten, stalk, sexually harass, repeatedly target someone, or organize others to intimidate them. Do not attack or exclude people because of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity. Discussing prejudice in a story is different from directing it at another member; context matters.

Respect boundaries and privacy

Accept a declined invitation, an unanswered Note and a request to stop. Do not use another account or another person to get around a block or restriction.

Do not expose someone else’s address, contact details, private photographs or personal information without permission. Do not publish private Notes to embarrass someone or rally people against them. Sharing necessary information through a safety report or with appropriate support is different from posting it publicly.

Never ask another member for passwords, sign-in codes or access to their account.

Keep harmful content out

Sexual exploitation, grooming, sexual content involving minors, and intimate images shared without consent are prohibited, including fabricated images. Do not solicit, link to or redistribute such material. Report its location; do not download, copy or forward it as proof.

Do not post pornography, send unwanted sexual content, or share graphic violence for shock or intimidation. Mature books and films can be discussed respectfully without reproducing explicit material.

Art, context and a choice to reveal

Nonsexual artistic nudity, such as a painting or book cover, is allowed only behind a cover the viewer chooses to open. Include a clear content notice and enough context to explain the work.

The cover must conceal the actual image and its preview. If the place you are posting cannot do that—including profile pictures, backgrounds and exposed cover thumbnails—use a non-explicit alternative. An available spoiler or reveal control is suitable only if it keeps that material covered.

A cover never makes pornography, exploitation, nonconsensual imagery or other prohibited content acceptable.

Do not encourage violence, abuse or self-harm, or help someone carry it out. People may talk about difficult experiences and ask for support without being shamed.

Be yourself. Participate honestly.

Pseudonyms and playful profiles are welcome. Impersonating another person, pretending to be staff, scamming members, posting malicious links or trying to access someone else’s information is not.

Do not flood feeds or Notes with repeated promotions, manipulate votes or reactions, or use fake accounts and automation to manufacture activity. Clearly disclose a commercial connection when promoting something. Do not organize harmful illegal activity through the site.

If you find a security problem, report it to safety@chaptermates.com. Do not use it to access other people’s accounts or data.

Respect the work—and the next reader

Share work you created, have permission to share, or can otherwise lawfully use. Do not upload pirated books or films, distribute stolen designs, or present someone else’s work as your own. Naming the creator does not by itself give permission to copy their work.

Use spoiler controls for plot details and respect a club’s reading or watching progress. Keep spoilers out of exposed titles and previews. An accidental spoiler calls for a correction; repeatedly spoiling things to upset people may become harassment.

Take care of your table

Hosts may set clear additional club rules that are consistent with these guidelines. Apply them fairly. Hosting a club does not give someone permission to threaten members, expose private information or retaliate against a report.

When stepping away, use the existing club handover process. Open your club’s tools and read Club bylaws for its notice, voting, recovery and ownership rules.

Report concerns honestly

Use the relevant content’s Report option when available and explain what needs attention. For content without that option, or a concern about a club host or moderator, contact the site owner directly. You do not need to investigate someone or confront them first.

Do not fabricate evidence, arrange mass reports, stage an offense to obtain a reward, or retaliate against someone for reporting. An honest report that does not lead to action is not a false report. Reports do not earn credits or automatic prizes.

A report asks for review. It does not automatically remove content or penalize a member. Report counts, popularity and friendship with a host do not establish guilt. You may block a member or leave a conversation while a concern is being reviewed.

What happens to the information I report?

Eligible club owners and moderators review club comments and memories. Their queue does not display the reporter’s name, though details in the report could identify them. Reporting a Note shares that selected Note’s text and your reason with the site’s feedback reviewers, not the rest of your conversation. Access to the ordinary site dashboard does not grant access to private Note evidence.

Reported comments, Notes and club memories are covered in your own view. My reports holds your saved cover choices and available outcomes. A personal cover does not hide content for everyone, and a review does not force you to uncover it.

A fair chance to be heard

Reviews should consider context, seriousness and established patterns of behavior. Quiet members, newcomers and people who disagree with the site owner deserve the same consideration as everyone else. Nobody should decide their own case.

Depending on the concern, a response may include an edit request, warning, content removal or a restriction on access. Serious harm can require immediate action; a warning is not required first. Decisions should have an explanation, and restrictions should have a clear scope and duration where applicable.

After an eligible recorded report outcome, open My reports and choose Ask for another look. Explain what was missed or add new information. Your private request keeps its responses together and shows whether it is received, being reviewed, or has a response.

In-site follow-up reviewers cannot be the reporter, content author or original decision-maker. A follow-up does not automatically reverse a decision or restore content. These requests do not send email alerts; check My reports for responses.

For an action affecting your own content or account, a report without the follow-up option, or a concern needing an independent reviewer, email safety@chaptermates.com. Include the relevant link or reference and what you think should be reconsidered. You can use email even if you cannot sign in.

Replies are handled manually. We do not have a separate, continuously staffed appeals team, and timing depends on an eligible reviewer being available. A reviewer named in the concern must step aside; a conflict involving the sole available reviewer requires another suitable reviewer. Urgent concerns should not wait for an in-site response.

Repeat reports and earlier outcomes

For club and Community Table comments, a review that takes no action starts a 24-hour cooldown for routine repeats about the same concern and unchanged version. Those reports receive the earlier outcome without restarting the clock.

Changed content, new evidence, a different concern and urgent concerns can still reach review. An earlier decision never gives content permanent immunity. Rate limits still apply; email remains available if you cannot submit.

The 24-hour rule currently applies to comments. For Notes and club photos, use an available follow-up request after an outcome, or email new information. A closed Note report is not automatically a finding that no rule was violated.
